Child Education: Elementary Summer Camps
Elementary summer camps are programs designed for kids between the approximate ages of six to 12. From day camps to sleep away programs, there are literally hundreds of elementary summer camps from which to choose. The trick is finding the one that best suits your childs personality and specific needs.
Elementary Summer Camps: Sleep Away vs. Day Programs
It is often difficult to decipher whether your elementary school child is ready for summer camp. Albeit terrifically fun, summer camp is a drastic experience for which all kids are not ready. That is why it is so important for parents to talk with their children and realistically gauge their serious interest in camp before making the commitment to send them off.
If your child is interested in going to summer camp, but you arent sure whether he/she is ready for a sleep away program, then you might want to consider a day camp. Day camps are great in that they feature similar curriculums as sleep away camps, but without the stress of living away from home. Once your child gets a taste of camp via a day program, then you can make the decision as to whether he/she is ready to sleep away.
Another alternative is to send your child to local sleep away camp. This way, your child can get the full camp experience, but can rest assured knowing that you are just a few miles away. In addition to being beneficial to the children, local camps are also good for first-time parents. Lets face it; parents are often just as nervous to send their kids to sleep away camp as are the children! Local camps make the situation easier on everyone.
